Sinnigveld Weesp block of flats – Het Houtblad October 2012

By 24 October 2019Uncategorized

Housing association Woningbouw Weesp decided to renovate the 45-year-old Sinnigveld block of flats in Weesp. The building houses 72 flats and 17 garages. FKG Architecten was awarded the contract after a selection process. Wood was proposed right from the start, and was highly appreciated. Leegwater Houtbereiding drew the architect’s attention to the German Douglas fir from the Black Forest which was eventually used. Leegwater treated every side of the German Douglas fir with three products. First of all, it was preservative treated with Woodlife HL-50 (free of metal salts). This was followed by treatment with Flame Delay PT, a fire-retardant, which was also applied to the supporting structure. Finally, it was treated with Sansin SDF three times; twice with a red-brown pigment and once with a whitewash. Kilometres of the wood were then skillfully and neatly nailed to the facades by Jongeneel Projects from Utrecht. The pink-beige color of the treatment with Sansin SDF closely matches the hue of the brick.
