About

In Utrecht’s Merwedekanaal zone, an outdated office building is making way for a new, sustainable residential complex with 215 rental flats. Demolition work started at the end of 2021. If all goes according to plan, Concorde will be completed during 2024. The Merwedekanaal zone is an area where the municipality of Utrecht is gradually developing a new, connecting and future-proof city district with accompanying facilities. The area will soon offer space for living, working and relaxing.

The project consists of two building blocks: a 15-storey residential tower and a lower square-shaped residential building. Residents will soon enjoy a communal courtyard garden on the semi-underground car park with bicycle storage. Roof terraces and large openings (nests) from the gallery will allow greenery to come out, like a sustainable walk through the building.

Concorde’s wooden outer shell is executed in wooden façade parts and supplied by Heuvelman Hout b.v. The pinewood parts are first preserved with Woodlife HL50 by Leegwater Houtbereiding, then fire-retardant impregnated with Flame Delay FX Pro and finished in colour with Sansin Woodsealer.
