SeARCH adds a new decorative variant to wooden facade cladding

It took some head-scratching, but the result is impressive: the extension to the Geert Groote College in Amsterdam. The idiosyncratic design by architectural firm SeARCH incorporates all kinds of playful architectural touches, such as the vertical open facade cladding made of German Douglas. Following some practical advice from Leegwater Houtbereiding, the architects designed some beautiful ornamental facade cladding partly hiding an underlying play of lines and patterns. The attractively structured, light-coloured Douglas is neatly attached to the facade. According to Hans de Groot, “It has resulted in a facade with a different appearance from different viewpoints, and can rightfully be called unique in the Netherlands”.
