The De Horst Estate in Driebergen has been home to a fantastic experience hotel since the summer of 2011. The rooms are contained in two stylised forest cabins, so no wonder OTH architects decided to use wood. Architect Wolse was looking for façade cladding that emphasised the horizontal design of the buildings, and found the answer in featheredged cladding. It looks like overlapping cladding, but the boards are much smaller. One important aspect which then required attention was the colour, as Western Red Cedar can weather irregularly. This was avoided by first treating the wood in the factory with fire-retardant Flame Delay and then with Sansin Enviro Stain Woodsealer, which ensures an accelerated, uniform weathering of the wood surface.
